Our Australian made BBQs are expertly handcrafted from premium stainless steel, selected for its exceptional durability and long-lasting performance.
Stainless steel naturally forms a protective layer of chromium oxide, which helps resist corrosion. However, exposure to dirt, salt, and grease can compromise this layer over time. That’s why regular cleaning is essential—not just for maintaining appearance, but to protect the integrity of your BBQ.
While stainless steel is more resistant to staining than regular steel, it still requires routine care to preserve its sleek finish. For best results, always clean in the direction of the grain for a polished, uniform look.

What You’ll Need:
✔ BBQ scraper
✔ Dishwashing detergent
✔ Soft sponge & microfibre cloth
✔ Scouring pad
✔ Bucket or bowl of warm water
✔ Towel or paper towels
✔ Bi-carb soda
✔ White cleaning vinegar
✔ Silicone-based stainless steel polish (optional)
Cleaning Instructions
1. Safety First
Ensure the BBQ is turned off and the BBQ plate is completely cool before cleaning to prevent burns.
2. Check & Empty the Fat Cup
Before cleaning, check if the fat cup is full. If so, empty it safely and return it to its position.
3. Scrape the Hot Plate
Use a BBQ scraper to remove any stuck-on food and residue.
Wipe away loosened debris with a cloth or paper towel, then dispose of the waste properly.
4. Prepare Soapy Water
Fill a bowl or bucket with warm water and add a few drops of dishwashing detergent.
Mix thoroughly.
5. Wipe the Interior & Hot Plate
Dip a soft sponge or cloth into the soapy water, squeeze out excess water, and gently scrub the interior surfaces.
Pay close attention to greasy areas or stains.
⚠ Avoid pouring water directly over BBQ controls to prevent damage.
6. Cleaning the Hot Plate & Removing Black Marks
Due to high heat and burnt-on food, some blackening may occur on the hot plate.
For stubborn stains and black marks, apply bi-carb soda and a splash of vinegar to the hot plate. Let it sit, then gently scrub.
Wipe off the excess bi-carb and vinegar with a paper towel then clean the surface with a clean soft cloth.
Repeat, if necessary.
7. Wipe Clean the Exterior
Gently wipe down the BBQ exterior with warm, soapy water.
Regular cleaning prevents tea-staining and maintains the high quality finish of the stainless steel.
If tea-staining occurs, clean it early—it’s much easier to remove in its initial stages before it worsens and leads to rust.
⚠ Avoid pouring water directly over BBQ controls to prevent damage.
8. Dry Thoroughly
Use a clean cloth or paper towel to dry all surfaces, including the exterior, interior, and hot plate.
Drying prevents water spots, tea-staining, and streaks from forming.
9. Clean Fat Cup
Remove the fat cup from the underside of the BBQ, empty then clean with warm soapy water.
Once dry, return to the BBQ.
9. Extra Cleaning for Stubborn Stains (Optional)
For stubborn stains, reapply bi-carb soda and vinegar. Let sit, scrub gently, and wipe clean.
If needed, rinse off with a damp cloth (avoid direct rinsing with water).
10. Polish the Exterior (Optional)
To enhance the BBQ’s shine, apply a silicone-based stainless steel polish to the exterior only, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Buff the surface with a clean cloth to create a protective layer, preventing tea-staining and rust.
⚠ Do not use silicone-based polish on the BBQ plate or cooking surface.
11. Regular Maintenance
Clean the BBQ after each use to prevent grease build-up and staining.
Regular cleaning makes future maintenance easier and keeps your Cookout BBQ in top condition.
🚫 What NOT to Do
❌ Do NOT hose down your electric BBQ.
❌ Do NOT pour water directly over the BBQ controls.
❌ Do NOT use steel wool on any part of the BBQ.
❌ Do NOT use a general purpose scouring pad on the stainless steel body, surround, or control panel—this will damage the surface and lead to rusting.
❌ Do NOT use carbon steel on stainless steel surfaces, as it will scratch and permanently damage the BBQ.
❌ Do NOT apply silicone-based stainless polish to the BBQ plate or cooking surface.
